The City Council of the City of Tonasket held a workshop on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm for the purpose of discussing rates, fees and salaries for the City.

 

Those present were Mayor Plumb and Councilmembers Griffin, Hines, Olson, Ramsey and Vugteveen.

 

There was discussion that the fees the City charges should reflect what people are earning. Controlling the costs of water treatment was discussed. Councilmember Vugteveen mentioned that costs need to be justifiable and that it is important to be fiscally responsible to the City and to the citizens.

 

Council also discussed the importance of educating the public on the water and sewer projects so people are aware of the costs and what is happening with the funding and possible rate increases.

 

In other project related matters the Council discussed the possibility of installing water  meters during the project that can be scanned instead of read manually.

 

There was discussion the water/sewer rates should be increased 3.2%, which would be an increase of $1.85 per month.

 

There will be another workshop on Tuesday, October 18th, 2011 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm for the same purpose.
