February 22, 2011 at 7:00 pm in the City
Hall,
Those present were Mayor Plumb and Councilmembers Griffin, Hines, Olson and Ramsey who joined in the flag salute. Also present was City Clerk-Treasurer Attwood.
WSDOT
Paul Mahre and Jennene Ring, Department of Transportation, were present to talk about an upcoming highway project scheduled in 2013. The improvements will consist of a chip seal through town and other areas of SR97 and SR20. Paul explained the reason for chip seal versus asphalt. An asphalt project would cost too much although they are considering an overlay at intersections. The Mayor and Council are concerned that the curbs and street are almost at the same level in some places. There was also discussion about the intersection of SR 20 and SR 97 which is difficult for large trucks to maneuver, the need for passing lanes on SR 97 and the speed transition zones located at the north and south entrances to town. Bob Thompson, a local resident, asked if the DOT would have funds to place a footbridge across Bonaparte Creek near the Veterans Memorial and Paul Mahre stated that could possibly be a budget line item request. After further discussion the Mayor thanked Paul and Jennene for coming to Council.
